🩰 About Kathak — The Classical Dance of Storytelling

Kathak is a North Indian classical dance form that blends precise footwork, intricate spins, and expressive storytelling. It beautifully combines rhythm (laya), poetry, and expression (bhava).

Technique & Footwork
  • Tatkar (basic rhythmic footwork)
  • Tukda, Tihai, Paran (short rhythmic compositions)
  • Chakkars (fast spins with balance and grace)
Rhythm & Music
  • Training in major taals like Teentaal (16 beats), Rupak (7), Keherwa (8), Dadra (6).
  • Layakari (tempo variations) and improvisation with tabla.
Abhinaya (Expressions)
  • Storytelling through facial expressions, gestures, and poetry.
  • Classical items in Bhakti, Shringar, and Veer rasas.
Repertoire Development
  • Aamad, Gat Nikas, Toda, Tukda, Paran, Thumri, Bhajan, Tarana.
  • Progressive syllabus aligned with exam boards in India.
